PLATO Testing Brings “Real Opportunities for Indigenous People”
(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, CAN – September 20, 2018): With a mission to create IT sector jobs for Indigenous people, Canadian software services company PLATO Testing has announced today that it will create a software testing lab in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg.
PLATO Testing addresses the technology talent shortage in Canada by bringing training and employment to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit across Canada.
The company currently employs over 60 full-time Indigenous people in the IT sector, and sees potential to employ up to 60 more in their Sault Ste. Marie testing lab. PLATO is expecting to take in their first training cohort this fall, and that class will begin working on testing solutions out of Sault Ste. Marie in early 2019.
PLATO President Denis Carignan is excited about the opportunity to work with the local community, and most importantly with the Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, and Metis Nation, to discover local talent. “PLATO was created to deliver a valuable service to software companies while addressing some of the issues for Indigenous Canadians that came out of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report,” he said. “We can bring training and meaningful careers to communities outside of major metropolises and, from there, we can compete with the world and we can succeed. We set out with a mission to build a nation-wide Indigenous Canadian software testing team and we are excited about the prospect of expanding our business to Sault Ste Marie.”
